(TAP) - Lao Cai Provincial Police (Vietnam) have identified and strictly handled a group of Chinese nationals who posted a livestream clip on Douyin containing fabricated information and content defaming the cultural identity of an ethnic minority community in Ta Van Commune. This act violates Vietnamese law and poses potential risks to the image of local tourism and cultural security.

According to official information released on September 9 by the Lao Cai Provincial Police Portal, on September 5, 2025, authorities discovered three livestream clips on the Douyin platform (China) containing fabricated content that defamed the cultural identity of ethnic minority communities in several villages of Ta Van Commune, Lao Cai Province. These clips not only damaged the reputation and image of the local area but also posed potential risks to the tourism environment, cultural security and social order. Immediately after the incident was detected, the External Security Division of the Lao Cai Provincial Police worked closely with the Ta Van Commune Police to promptly implement professional measures for review and verification. As a result, the authorities quickly identified a group of foreign individuals holding Chinese nationality as the ones responsible for posting the offending clips. The individuals were summoned to the Ta Van Commune Police Station for questioning and have been subjected to strict handling in accordance with Vietnamese law.

The Lao Cai Provincial Police emphasized that posting and spreading false, harmful information online - especially content related to the customs, traditions and cultural identity of ethnic minority groups, not only constitutes a violation of the law but also causes negative consequences, distorting the image of Lao Cai’s land and people in the eyes of the international community.
Through this incident, the External Security Division of the Lao Cai Provincial Police also called on the public to raise their vigilance, proactively detect and promptly report to authorities any acts of posting or spreading misleading information.
The community’s collective efforts will play an important role in protecting cybersecurity and preserving the cultural and tourism image of Lao Cai province in particular and Vietnam in general, helping them become increasingly clean, safe and friendly.
