(TAP) – As of July 18, Cambodia had arrested more than 2.270 suspects in a nationwide crackdown on scam networks. The Secretariat of the Cambodian Commission for Combatting Online Scams announced that Chinese citizens accounted for the majority with 702 cases.

The information was released on July 18 by Cambodia’s Ministry of Information, citing data from the Cambodia Counter Fraud Committee (CCFC). As of July 18, the CCFC reported that the Unified Command — a joint task force involving authorities from Phnom Penh and 24 provinces — had dismantled 45 scam operations, an increase of 25 locations compared to July 17, when 20 sites were raided.

According to the latest report, the crackdown has led to the arrest of 2,270 suspects. Among them, Chinese nationals made up the largest group with 702 individuals, followed by Vietnamese (429), Indonesians (271), Bangladeshis (70), South Koreans (57), and Pakistanis (42). Other suspects include nationals from Thailand, Laos, India, Nepal, the Philippines, and Myanmar, though specific numbers have not been provided. Cambodia’s Ministry of Information also stated that nearly 100 foreign nationals entered the country over the past two days alone to engage in online scam activities.

As previously reported by TAP News, the campaign was launched by the Cambodian government on June 27, following the first official meeting of the Cambodia Counter Fraud Committee (CCFC) held on the same day. At the end of the operation, the Unified Command sealed off the raided locations, handed over key suspects to the court, and initiated prosecution. The Cambodian General Department of Immigration is also working with local authorities to prepare deportation procedures for the foreign nationals involved. Evidence related to online scam activities has been submitted to the court or temporarily held for further investigation.
